CASTEL & FROMAGET DELIVERS THE MEMORIAL ACTe

Unveiled May 10th 2015 by the President of France François Hollande, the Memorial ACTe has been open to the public since July 7th. This monument to the memory of slave trade benefitted from the expertise of Castel & Fromaget for the Guadeloupean architects’ practice Berthelot / Mocka-Célestine.

The intervention of Castel & Fromaget focused on the walkway platform (12 meters high, 275 meters long) allowing people to access panoramic gardens; the structure of the concrete building; and the construction and erection of the mesh (130 tons of aluminium) that serves as roof. The company braided directly on site several blades of aluminium of different widths and attached them onto the metal structure of the building.

The Memorial ACTe is the biggest center in the world dedicated to trade slave. Built on the port of Pointe-à-Pitre, it is becoming a major asset in the cultural and touristic life of Guadeloupe.
