The Bubble
The new entrance to the shopping centre, housing the restaurant area, is a three-dimensional ellipse known as "the bubble", covered in screen-printed transparent double-glazing that allows light to filter through naturally.
Entirely modelled using parametric software, the mechanically welded structure of the glass roof was assembled in our workshops. The fineness of the components meant that deformations during welding had to be controlled.
The envelope of the ellipsoidal structure can be likened to a portion of a cylinder of variable diameter. Equilateral triangles with sides of more than 3 m are placed side by side. Using templates, the arches are assembled with the crosspieces to form ladders, which in turn are assembled to form the sheet.
The principle of fixing the glass panels was specially developed and optimised using 3D printing.
The project is part of the BREEAM New Construction-2016 Very Good environmental certification process.

The Boule
The structure housing the cinema, known as the "boule", is clad in a mixed cladding of simple opalescent and transparent glazing called scales (under ATEx) held in place by VEA fixings. They are divided into 24 double-curved lines over the height of the building.
The structure is scalable up to a height of 25 m and a developed length of 200 m.
This ball of glass and metal is set into three slender steel frames to support the scales.
The project has been awarded BREEAM New Construction-2016 Very Good environmental certification.
