In May 2017, PIVETEAU BOIS, based in Sainte Florence (85), awarded ADC a contract to design and build a gantry crane with grapple shovel and an autonomous forklift for their new log storage yard.

OPERATING GANTRY

The gantry crane, fitted with a Liebherr electro-hydraulic shovel controlled by an operator, is used to pick up logs from the X-ray scanning unit and store them, according to their classification, in the log yard. The classification criteria are defined according to the characteristics of the log and its end use.

CONVEYING TO THE SAWING UNIT

The second task of the gantry crane is to pick up the logs stored in the yard and load them into the autonomous carriage, which then conveys and unloads them to the sawing unit in an automated cycle.
Unique features of the gantry crane: Control station located 14 metres above the ground, maximum travel speed 200 metres/minute, weight of the machine approximately 200 tonnes.
The autonomous carriage: travel speed 150 metres/minute, capacity around 60 tonnes of logs.
