Centre commercial Val d'Europe
The Val D'Europe shopping centre, which opened in 2000 and was extended in 2009, has a new extension featuring a superb glass roof reminiscent of Halles Baltard. The structure comprises 8 arched lattice trusses supported by tie rods, spanning 35 m. Some 160 girts and 1,000 purlins make up the secondary structure that connects them to form the vault. The glass roof is covered with insulating glazing and an opaque roof in the centre to reduce the amount of light entering the commercial space.
The framework was manufactured in our workshops, then erected on site on shoring towers 20 m high. Once all the components had been adjusted and the tie rods installed, the prestressing of the structure enabled the glass roof to be detached from its shoring, following a carefully planned schedule.
Once the shoring towers had been removed, the glazing and roofing were installed.

A SPECTACULAR STRUCTURETopped with metal and glass, the 24m-high, 90m-long structure is the focal point of the shopping centre. The glass roof is trapezoid-shaped with semi-rounded ends, equipped with an opaque summit skylight and has two slightly-sloping sides. |
12,000 MANUFACTURING HOURS FOR THE FRAMEWORKThe structure is made up of 8 curved roof trusses, supported by tie rods, spanning 35m. Some 160 jack rafters and 1,000 purlins make up the secondary structure that holds up the roof. The framework was built in VIRY's workshops (12,000 hours) then assembled on site using 20m-high shoring towers. Once the entire structure had been adjusted and the tie rods set up, the pre-stressing of the structure meant the glass roof could be removed from its shorings in precisely predetermined phases. |
